thank god for teen pregnancy!

oscar review.  well, thoughts.  now that it's over.

according to statistics and my last post, i am:
7/19 or 37% happy
10/19 or 53% psychic.

some i didn't predict.

notes:
*why did they wrap up in such a hurry at 9:48ish (mountain time)? didn't they have until 10?

*thing about best director.  i guess i was right, but maybe PTA will still win one someday.  but if he didn't for TWBB, it seems like either he'll win for a lesser film just to make up for this snub, or he'll actually make another amazing film someday.  but did you notice for the two oscars that movie DID get, both recipients specifically said "this is for Paul?"

*those two big movies, There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men (this isn't about the Oscars, just an observation), did you notice they didn't have the directors' signature actors? TWBB didn't have Philip Seymour Hoffman, who's been in his last bunch of films, and NCFOM didn't have Steve Buscemi.  weird.

*those songs from Enchanted kinda sucked.  I'm glad none of them won.

*i like Jon Stewart.

*Michael Clayton got screwed!  it was up for so many! maybe that's why Tilda Swinton actually beat the highly expected Cate Blanchett?

*i guess 53% isn't a GREAT track record, but I'm still surprised/impressed with myself for achieving that.  since there were 4 nominees in most categories.  i got the first 5 or so of the night correct.  but then again, lots of my correct guesses were totally stabs in the dark for movies i'd never seen.

*i need to start making predictions for how many times Jack Nicholson will be addressed directly on any given oscar night.

silly oscars

NOTE: Wow, I did pretty awesome with these predictions.  I have now annotated my responses.

they are on tonight.  hardly news i guess.  you knew that.  just figured i'd make my predictions.  and give my opinions even though i already did that awhile ago.

i'll just go in the same order as the official oscar site, and then say who i "hope" wins and who i "predict" will win.  but i have a pretty bad track record with these things.  so like, don't enter a pool with these answers unless that's actually what you think.  not that you would.  just a disclaimer.  i will probably be wrong a lot.

Actor in a lead role
George Clooney, Michael Clayton
Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood
Johnny Depp, Sweeney Todd
Tommy Lee Jones, In The Valley Of Elah
Viggo Mortensen, Eastern Promises
HOPE: Daniel Day-Lewis - HOORAY!
PREDICT: Daniel Day-Lewis - CORRECT!
not just because I've only seen TWBB and ST, but also because his performance was epic.

Actor in a support role
Casey Affleck, The Assassination of Jesse James...
Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Charlie Wilson's War
Hal Holbrook, Into The Wild
Tom Wilkinson, Michael Clayton
HOPE: Javier Bardem - HOORAY!
PREDICT: Javier Bardem - CORRECT!
ok, PSH is my favorite actor, and I never saw CWW.  But Bardem was so amazing in that movie.

Actress in a lead role
Cate Blanchett, Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Julie Christie, Away From Her
Marion Cotillard, La Vie En Rose
Laura Linney, The Savages
Ellen Page, Juno
HOPE: Laura Linney - AWW.
PREDICT: Marion Cotillard - CORRECT!
Ellen Page is too young to win.  She will one year though.  And people thought the character wasn't "believable," but I disagree--Juno was a lot like the girls I hung out with in high school.  I want Laura Linney to win, but those little movies I like that nobody else sees never seem to win.  My prediction is a total stab in the dark because I haven't seen any of those three movies.

Actress in a support role
Cate Blanchett, I'm Not There
Ruby Dee, American Gangster
Saoirse Ronan, Atonement
Amy Ryan, Gone Baby Gone
Tilda Swinton, Michael Clayton
HOPE: Cate Blanchett - AWW.
PREDICT: Cate Blanchett - WRONG!
Sadly, I've only seen I'm Not There.  But I feel confident in my choice because not only did she succeed in making me get beyond "OMG a woman's playing Bob Dylan!" but because her character was my FAVORITE portrayal in that movie.  Man, I really should've seen Michael Clayton.  It'll probably win something.

Animated Feature Film
Persepolis
Ratatouille
Surf's Up
HOPE: Persepolis - AWW.
PREDICT: Ratatouille - CORRECT!
I haven't seen any of these, but I will be super surprised if Surf's Up wins.  It seems like it was just nominated so it wouldn't just be between 2 movies.  Anyway, Ratatouille had like a 99% or something on Rotten Tomatoes so everybody loves it.

Art Direction
American Gangster
Atonement
The Golden Compass
Sweeney Todd
There Will Be Blood
HOPE: Sweeney Todd - HOORAY!
PREDICT: American Gangster - WRONG.
Just seems like something AG can win, since it should win something.  Shot in the dark though.

Cinematography
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Atonement
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood
HOPE: There Will Be Blood - HOORAY!
PREDICT: Atonement - WRONG.
the only thing that didn't impress me about No Country was the cinematography.  Also, it seems like the academy is all about shit like Atonement so it will probably win.  I shouldn't call it shit; I've never seen it, but I can imagine what the cinematography would be like.  Not shit, just soft and pretty.  But not really exciting to me in the circumstances.

Costume Design
Across the Universe
Atonement
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
La Vie en Rose
Sweeney Todd
HOPE: Sweeney Todd - WRONG.
PREDICT: Elizabeth: The Golden Age - CORRECT!
or Atonement.  I guess Elizabeth is kinda a secondary "hope" for me.  I just get so bored with costume design in these period pieces.  But since they always win, I just kinda hope it goes to Elizabeth.  I dunno, I should actually look at the clothes in stills from the movies if I want to be less biased.

Directing
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Juno
Michael Clayton
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood
HOPE: There Will Be Blood - WRONG.
PREDICT: No Country For Old Men - CORRECT!
I consider PTA perhaps the best director working right now.  Or at least he's up there.  People say he borrows/steals from Kubrick (and others), but I see it more as an employment of what he finds successful.  So I do consider him a great, great director.  And There Will Be Blood is perhaps his greatest effort yet.  But since Kubrick, Hitchcock, and Altman all never won oscars for directing, I can see him ending up in that field.  Plus, the Coen brothers also deserve to win.  And I just have a feeling they might.

Documentary Feature
No End In Sight
Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience
Sicko
Taxi to the Dark Side
War/Dance
HOPE: not Sicko - HOORAY!
PREDICT: not Sicko - CORRECT-ISH!
I haven't seen any of these.  But Michael Moore has already won, and while I mostly agree with his politics, it's hard to consider his movies documentaries.

Documentary Short
Freeheld
La Corona
Salim Baba
Sari's Mother
HOPE: ?
PREDICT: ?
I wish I'd gone to some of those shows where you see all the nominated shorts in whatever given category.  That makes these categories more interesting, having seen all of the nominees, instead of none.  That said, I'll make my prediction while watching the show, after seeing the little clips they play.

Film Editing
The Bourne Ultimatum
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Into the Wild
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood
HOPE: No Country for Old Men - AWW.
PREDICT: Into the Wild - WRONG.
Just seems like Into the Wild will win SOMETHING so probably this.  Not that I've seen it or its editing.

Foreign language film
Beaufort
The Counterfeiters
Katyn
Mongol
12
HOPE: ?
PREDICT: ?
How shameful! I haven't seen any of these!  Although with foreign films, I usually prefer the ones that don't get nominations.

Makeup
La Vie En Rose
Norbit
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
HOPE: not Norbit - HOORAY!
PREDICT: La Vie En Rose - CORRECT!
Seriously, if Norbit wins an Oscar, I will be upset.

Music (score)
Atonement
The Kite Runner
Michael Clayton
Ratatouille
3:10 To Yuma
WISH: There Will Be Blood - SIGH.
PREDICT: 3:10 To Yuma  - WRONG.
Again, I just kinda have to guess.  But it totally should've been TWBB.

Music (song)
Once "Falling Slowly" by Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova
Enchanted "Happy Working Song" by Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz
August Rush "Raise It Up" by Jamal Joseph, Charles Mack & Tevin Thomas
Enchanted "So Close" by Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz
Enchanted "That's How You Know" by Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz
HOPE: ?
PREDICT: something from Enchanted - THANK GOD I WAS WRONG.
It's just simple statistics.

Best Picture
Atonement
Juno
Michael Clayton
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood
HOPE: There Will Be Blood - AWW.
PREDICT: There Will Be Blood - WRONG.
I just feel like TWBB might kinda get snubbed most of the night, but then will win best picture because after all, it was in fact the best picture of the year.

(skipping short animation & live action because this is getting long and it'll just be a repeat of what I wrote about short documentary)

Sound Editing
The Bourne Ultimatum
No Country For Old Men
Ratatouille
There Will Be Blood
Transformers
HOPE: There Will Be Blood - AWW.
PREDICT: The Bourne Ultimatum - CORRECT!
seriously, did you notice the sound during the oil fire scene?  Brilliant.

Sound Mixing
The Bourne Ultimatum
No Country For Old Men
Ratatouille
3:10 to Yuma
Transformers
HOPE: 3:10 to Yuma - AWW.
PREDICT: Ratatouille - WRONG.
No idea.  The best sound mixing doesn't really draw attention to itself.  So maybe even No Country.  I just don't remember really noticing the mixing at all, in a good way or bad.

Visual Effects
The Golden Compass
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Transformers
HOPE: Transformers - AWW.
PREDICT: The Golden Compass - CORRECT!
I'm not big on visual effects.

Writing: Adapted Screenplay
Atonement
Away From Her
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood
HOPE: No Country For Old Men - HOORAY!
PREDICT: No Country For Old Men - CORRECT!
That movie was complicated.  But it all made sense.  Well, eventually.  After thinking about it for awhile.

Writing: Original Screenplay
Lars and the Real Girl
Michael Clayton
Ratatouille
The Savages
HOPE: The Savages - AWW.
PREDICT: Michael Clayton - WRONG.  MAN THIS MOVIE GOT PRETTY HOSED.

and that's it.  We'll see how way off I was.  When watching tonight, just remember.  The Oscars, while not as ridiculous as the Grammys, have a history of snubbing some of the greatest films ever made.  So like, don't get too upset about it.

I just wish Before The Devil Knows You're Dead was up for SOMETHING.  But that's not how it works, is it?

because music should be free

this is nothing new, in any way.  i'm not pretending to be making some big reveal.  BUT here is something i forgot about a long time ago.  then it randomly came back to me.  i already forget why.

such an awesome website.

it offers many services, such as the wayback machine, which archives a bunch of websites so you can check out really old versions of stuff.  there's also a slew of old films--mostly educational films and such--that are so old they no longer have a copyright.  such a great resource for making random found footage pieces.

but the reason i come to you today is to expose/remind you of the live music archive found at archive.org.  tons of bands, tons of full shows.  and the fine folks that put this up really have a thing for putting the highest quality possible out there.  that means you can get lossless FLAC files, or VBR mp3s.  and there are ratings, so you know which ones have great sound quality as well.

so there's that.  instead of posting mp3s as usual, i'm going to direct you to the directory, as well as some of the gems i've found:

and what i've found from my limited browsing:
Britt Daniel 3-29-06 San Francisco
Elliott Smith 5-18-98 San Francisco
Hank III 2-27-04 Spartanberg, SC
Magicyclops! (interview, performs some songs...)
Murder City Devils 10-2-98 KNDD The End (Seattle)
Xiu Xiu 5-13-04 Nuremberg

BONUS:
from what I can tell, this is a free internet release, an actual official live album.  i found it when i did a search for Magnetic Fields.  It says something about them and Stephin Merritt.  But I still don't understand it.  but the important thing: free Deerhoof music!

yes.  let me know in the comments if you find any more gems.  and enjoy, if you forgot or didn't know!

music is a gift!

tuesday tomorrow

hey there readers,

it's been awhile since i last rapped at ya, but i've been busy. friday i actually did some work (freelance videography job) and then i spent the weekend with the lady's parents. but now i am back. so don't you worry.

i'm back just in time, because it's...tuesday tomorrow. it's actually pretty exciting this week. if only i had more steady work, and could throw my money into the music business. i know twist & shout misses me!

MUSIC:
*Kidz Bop 13 - featuring Hey There Delilah, Big Girls Don't Cry (but little girls do!), S.O.S., and everybody's favorite suicidal hit, "Beautiful Girls." all sung by the kids, because Kidz Bop is for the children.
*Ray Davies - Working Man's Cafe - ok this one I actually am interested in. His last solo album Other People's Lives was wonderful, and this one's all about America. Even though it came out awhile ago in the UK and came free with a newspaper or something. Still, go America! And go Kinks reunion later this year?
*Nick Lowe - Jesus of Cool - 30th anniversary edition. Includes lots of bonus tracks, for a total of 21 tracks from that era of cool. This has been out of print for some time. Order it from Yep Roc and get a free download of the album plus some bonus tracks! You get the download even if you get the vinyl! What a steal!
*The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride
- This is one I've been super stoked on for some time. That John Darnielle, he's the real thing.
*KRS-One - Adventures In Emceein' - I'm not sure what this is exactly, but KRS-One is one of my favorite MCs and I'm pretty excited about it, whatever it is. Looks like a new album...

DVDs
*American Gangster
- I've been waiting for this on DVD, because I was hearing mixed things about it so I didn't want to spend my hard earned money on it. But it's cool because it's a 2 disc collector's edition (for a decent price) and it has the director's cut. Ridley Scott!
*
Michael Clayton - I just kinda considered this yet another George Clooney movie but you know, it's probably pretty good.
*
Lust, Caution - Ang Lee is pretty cool, and this has a pretty sweet soundtrack...
*
Margot at the Wedding - This was recommended to me, so...hurrah for Netflix?
and I've saved the best for last...
*Pierrot Le Fou - Godard + 1965 + Anna Karina = you can't go wrong. Everyone is in top form, and I believe Pierrot Le Fou is one of Godard's finest. Fun, provocative, thoughtful, challenging...I love it. So glad it has reached DVD.

So there you have it. Big week for me and for those with similar tastes to mine. I can't recommend Pierrot Le Fou or Jesus of Cool enough.

back to work, tv and film business!

if i were living in LA or NY at this time, i would be heaving a huge sigh of relief right about now.

thanks to an overwhelming majority, the WGA has voted to indeed go back to work tomorrow.  those reports you were hearing last week and the week before, i didn't comment because i didn't want to add to the pressure to accept the deal and all that, even though everybody else was saying the strike was ending.  i don't necessarily want to get everybody's hopes up, that's all.

so congrats hollywood, you will have your precious oscars.  i'm more concerned about the "below the line" workforce in the industry, the grips, gaffers, set dressers, 2nd 2nd ADs, PAs, etc etc etc.  they can finally maybe pay off some of that credit card debt.  eventually quit that pizza delivery job.  get back to their passion.  2 1/2 months is a long time to be out of work, especially when it's not even your strike.  these people sacrificed and don't even stand to benefit from it.

the machine is running again.  i hope the LOST season can be salvaged.

i, on the other hand, do not go back to work tomorrow.  i think it's time i start looking though.

sadly, their album Neu is out of print.  But you can get their other Asian Man Records album Hey! Bob! My Friend! for $8 (or $9 for a picture disc vinyl!) at asianmanrecords.com
(when it comes to pimping out labels, Asian Man is one I will always be more than happy to support.  Everything they do is totally awesome.  Watch for more AMR bands to pop up here in the future.)

tuesday tomorrow

we are coming upon the day on which the entertainment world throws upon us a new batch of entertainment.  that's right, it's...

TUESDAY TOMORROW!

wowza.

ok, for 2/12:
MUSIC
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music? - yes, yes I do.
Michael Jackson - Thriller (25th anniversary edition) - this may or may not be the preferred way to pick up Thriller if you don't already have it.  I guess it depends on how much you're into will.i.am & co.  Seems a little silly.  I thought it would have like, a whole bonus disc of people dueting with MJ recordings, but it's mostly just will.i.am with a couple surprise guests on it.  Based on how lame will's thing at the Grammys was last night, I'm leaning away from this one.
The Puppini Sisters - The Rise & Fall of Ruby Woo - They seem pretty gimmicky, capitalizing on all the interest in vocal jazz trios brought on by the Triplets of Belleville.  But who knows.  I honestly haven't listened to them, but I'm curious about them.
The Smashing Pumpkins - American Gothic - this is an EP.  lord.  the tags on amazon include "boring guitar bands."  classic.
Robert Pollard - Superman Was a Rocker - that Robert Pollard guy sure likes to put out albums, doesn't he?  A review says it's a return to GBV form, so maybe this is a step up.
V/A - The Complete Motown Singles vol. 9: 1969 - when will someone take the hint and buy me some of these collections?  I WANT THEM ALL.
Cinnamon Girl: Women Artists Cover Neil Young For Charity - The title just about covers it, I think.  Well, I guess it raises a few questions. 1: Which women artists? They are mostly unknown, but they include Kate York, Jill Sobule, Veruca Salt, The Watson Twins, and more. 2: Which Neil Young songs? It's the good ones.  Stretching across 2 CDs, some of the songs on the album are Heart of Gold, Old Man, Like A Hurricane, Tell Me Why, I Believe In You, Ohio, and of course Cinnamon Girl. 3: What charity? Casting For Recovery, which offers support and education for women who have or have had breast cancer.  So there you have it.  Probably the most worthwhile release of the week.
V/A - B.I.P.P.P.: French Synth-Wave 1979-1985 - I remember noting this when I first read about it on Pitchfork.  Seems like an essential lesson in music history.

DVDs:
Stones Throw 102: In Living The True Gods - if you're still into music videos, this is a good compilation, with videos by Madvillain, Quasimoto, J Dilla, and many more from the wonderful roster at Stones Throw.
Eclipse Series 8: Lubitsch Musicals - includes The Love Parade, The Smiling Lieutenant, One Hour With You, and Monte Carlo.  ESSENTIAL if you love musicals ;)
Stanley Kramer Film Collection - includes Guess Who's Coming To Dinner (also out this week individually), Ship of Fools, The Member of the Wedding, The Wild One, and The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T.  Fantastic collection, and this is the first time The Member of the Wedding has been available on DVD.
Romance & Cigarettes - HELL of a cast including James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Steve Buscemi, Mandy Moore, Mary-Louise Parker, Aida Turturro, and Christopher Walken.  I never saw this, but the cast alone makes me want to Netflix it like, now.
Zapped! - classic.

So...did I miss anything?

PS: I think I'm going to abstain from launching my "check out this artist!" posts until I've gotten through the alphabet in my little project thing.  Because I really want to focus on that.  I just started the S's but there are a TON of s's.

"it's showtime, folks!"

Roy Scheider.  Star of my favorite movie musical of all time.  And Jaws, of course.  But his portrayal in All That Jazz as basically Bob Fosse himself (with a different name) was so great, so memorable.  And now of course it will be strange when he sings "Bye Bye Life" about being dead.  But it was always strange, as he was portraying Bob Fosse, who was dead by the time I saw the film for the first time.

The thing is, there are just a few people in showbiz that affect you in a profound level, even if for just a single performance, and for me, Roy Scheider's Joe Gideon is one of those.  So if you haven't seen it, I cannot recommend All That Jazz enough.  And if you have, it might be time to watch it again.

friday tomorrow

not a whole lot out these days.  i guess that's what happens in early february/late january.  once all those oscar contenders are out.

*In Bruges is coming to the Esquire, but as many times as I've seen the trailer, I just don't really find it exciting.  Just seems like another "cool, flashy, fast-moving but super hip action comedy" in the vein of snatch, and those other ones that came out last year.  maybe it's good but...eh.

*I don't know if it's out tomorrow or next week or what, but Honeydripper is listed in the "coming soon" section at Neighborhood Flix.  If you recall, I got excited about this back in my very first entry on this here blog.  It kinda tells the tale of the birth of rock & roll.  I do want to see this one.

that's really it, as far as anything I care about at all...

The real story is LOST tonight.  OMG so excited!  Stereogum alerted me to a band called Previously On Lost, who will be writing songs recapping every episode.  The first one, recapping last week's episode, is pretty rad.  It's called "We're Going Home."

Well we wonder who the people on the boat gonna be
Ben's got a nasty shiner and he's tied to a tree
Let's follow all the blood so we can talk to Naomiiiiii

happy birthday dilla

I could either do a tribute to J Dilla on his birthday (today), or the anniversary of his untimely death (which would be this Sunday).

Let's go with the more positive, uplifting date.

I'm not about to claim to be any sort of authority on Jay Dee, but I do know that he was a great talent, and what I've heard of his work is nothing short of amazing.

super! tuesday

so not only is it TUESDAY TOMORROW (see what i did there? not that i like the title, but still!), but it's SUPER TUESDAY!

if you are affiliated with a party, there's a good chance you should be caucusing tomorrow.  so do it!

I'm not saying who to vote for, obviously you know where I align myself (see previous post), but do it!  I really want who I want to win to win.  wow.  what a sentence.

***ALSO:
The Mountain Goats wrote a song about super tuesday:

if the embedded clip doesn't work, go here to check out the song.

tuesday tomorrow

yes, i shall discuss the marketplace of which i am not currently an active member!

MUSIC
Bob Mould - District LineBrendon Canty is on this one.
Hot Chip - Made in the DarkI do like them.  Eventually, if I keep hearing about this CD being great, I might get this.  Assuming I have a job by then.
Jason Collett - Here's to Being Here: Why is this not Broken Social Scene Presents? Is Kevin Drew the only one doing that?  Anyway, I hear it's a "guitar record" so that's pretty sweet.
Kool G Rap - Half a Klip: Who knows.
Lenny Kravitz - It Is Time for a Love Revolution: I'm not gonna get this, but it's still cool that he's back.
Nada Surf - Lucky: If I get any album tomorrow, it will be this one.  Based on the one song I've heard, it's more of Nada Surf being awesome.
(of course, this is off Lucky, which you should purchase at your local record store or at barsuk.com)

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - Calibration (is Pushing Luck and Key too Far): weird, so soon after the Mars Volta album.
They Might Be Giants - Here Come The 123sI do like them.  Very much.  But this would be much more suited for someone else.  Like my nephews, or my good friend who will be giving birth in May.  I didn't get ABCs, but maybe once my TMBG collection nears completion I will get this.

DVDs
2 Days in Paris: I always thought it looked too much like Before Sunrise/Before Sunset.  But now I might check it out to see for myself.
Across The Universe: I always wanted to see it more out of curiosity than anything else.  The first time I saw the trailer I thought it looked stupid, then thought it might look cool as it moved along.  That's what netflix is for, right?
The Aristocats: I liked this one when I was little.  Maybe my nephews would like it.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Rob Ford: I like the title.  People on Amazon like it.  Nick Cave did the soundtrack.  Sure, I'll netflix it!
Jean-Luc Godard Box Set: includes Passion, First Name: Carmen, The Detective, and Oh Woe Is Me.  These are some of his harder-to-find titles, I most definitely want this collection.  If it's really only 26.19 I just might have to get it now, rather than wait.  Score!
The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection - Vol. 10.2includes Giant Gila Monster, Swamp Diamonds, Teenage Strangler, Giant Spider Invasion

Perfect Strangers: The Complete First And Second Seasons: wow, what a surprise!  I loved this show back in the day, and I've been waiting for it to come out on DVD ever since shows started coming out on DVD.  I'm a bit worried though, if I actually watch it again it'll probably tarnish my great memories of the show (i.e. it's probably not as great as I remember)

And that's all I know of.  Did I miss anything?

of montreal

here is something i forgot to share.

you ain't no picasso posted this awesome blog of a ton of of montreal cover songs.

i haven't gotten to listen to them yet, but pretty awesome.

ALSO, if you want them all but don't want to download them all individually, pasqualle posted a zip file.  it's in another language, but the second update on the blog says "zip" so that's where you click.

(in other news, i'm almost done with the p's as far as my "music listening project" goes, and today is the 1 year anniversary of when i started the whole thing.  then q's will be pretty short.  maybe i'll finish the alphabet by the end of march?)

*and if you were hoping to see new movie releases yesterday here, well, there's really nothing of interest to me being released this week in denver.  so that's that.
